Welcome to Daily Living with Allergies. I hope you all find something to enjoy or take with you from this site.
About my life
Howdy, my name is Lynda. I have 4 grown children and 6 beautiful grandchildren and I am proud of them all. I have the love and support of a wonderful man in my life, Brian, he has always been there to encourage me to start on my blog. Without him, I never would have gotten as far as I have today. He has always had faith in me event when I didn’t. I look to him for encouragement, help and support and he has always been there. We have the same goals in life and like most of the same things, which is great. There is a wide variety of tastes and things I do in my life. I love all kinds of music (except maybe rap, but I even like a few of those) but my favorite is classic rock from the 80’s. Gardening and lots of different types of crafts are fun ways to help recycle. A big believer using old stuff to make it into something new and usable. Brian and I are big believers in DIY projects and one day plan on re-purposing old furniture to new and stylish stuff. We love the great outdoors, camping, football, cooking new things and writing. I also write reviews of the products I try for various sites and will be putting them here as well.
When I was a baby, I was diagnosed with milk allergies. Over the first few years, I seem to outgrow it and enjoyed all kinds of dairy products. When I was in my early 30’s, I started having lots of issues only after I ate. Allergy tests were to expensive back then, so I tried an elimination diet. When something was added back, if I got sick, I created ingredients list, compared all the foods and checked google. I developed an intolerance and allergies to different ingredients in milk. Over the years things kept getting worse, Gluten allergy. Then I could finally afford a small allergy test and bam, more allergies, and some even surprised me.
After these tests I searched google for weeks trying to find help. There is so much out there, but usually only for certain things or for the “top 8” allergens. Even sites that claim to be allergy free are misleading, because anything can be an allergen, it’s not that they are trying to be misleading but somethings you wouldn’t think of. I would like to let others know of allergies that aren’t the top ones and get more people aware. There are lots of wonderful sites out there, but they are lacking in certain allergens.
It is hard to eat out because of these allergies and I would never burden people to have to by all kinds of special foods so that I can go eat dinners elsewhere. Most of the foods I cook anyone can and will eat without knowing they are missing things like real butter, milk or in some cases sugar. So I just want a place to share what allergies I have, what works or doesn’t work for me and hear what others have to say.
I want to help others
When I was diagnosed with both food and non-food allergies I was giving 2 pieces of paper and sent on my way. One told me what I was allergic to, depending on the number was how allergic I was. The second piece told me that I could pay every month or so for allergy shots, use over the counter medicine, clean my house, wear a mask, ya know the usual stuff to do to help. That’s it. No explanation or help in any way. I spent weeks on google understanding what I am allergic to and trying to find ways to live. I would like to help others, share my experiences, and hear from others.
